R-codes — Diagnostic Radiology Services

Portable radiology services — primarily transportation of x-ray equipment to nursing homes and patient homes.

R-codes (R0070-R0076) are a tiny range covering the transportation portion of portable x-ray services. They are billed by mobile imaging providers and account for the equipment and personnel travel, separate from the actual x-ray CPT codes.

Most imaging billing uses CPT (70000 series) codes — R-codes are only for the portable-service transportation component.
