V-codes — Vision, Hearing, and Speech-Language Pathology

Vision care items (V2000-V2999), hearing services (V5000-V5999), and supplies for speech-language pathology.

V-codes split into three groups. V2000-V2999 are vision items — spectacle lenses, frames, contact lenses, low-vision aids. V5000-V5999 are hearing services and hearing aids. The middle range covers speech-language pathology supplies and miscellaneous items.

Medicare covers a narrow set of V-codes: one pair of corrective lenses after cataract surgery (V2100-V2615 with the appropriate modifier), and hearing exams (V5008) but generally not hearing aids. Most other V-codes are paid by commercial insurance, Medicaid, or vision/hearing plans.
